What leather dye is the best?
It’s important to select the right leather dyes for your leather projects. One of our favorite leather dye suppliers is Fiebing's with a nice range of oil based, alcohol based and water based options to choose from. Fiebing’s Pro Dye is our resident leathercraft expert Chuck Dorsett’s favorite. It’s oil based formula dries quickly and will not crack and peel, requiring less maintenance. If you’re looking for an alcohol based dye, Fiebing’s Leather Dye is a great choice. It provides stain resistance on some leathers but can cause the leather to be stiffer after it’s dyed. Water based Fiebing's LeatherColors has a softer finish but may not have quite the long term consistency of Fiebing’s Pro Dye and Fiebing’s Leather Dye.
How to seal leather
Whether you leave your veg tan leather natural or add some leather dye, you’ll want to add a leather sealer to protect your project. Leather top coats like Resolene, Leather Balm with Atom Wax, Pro Resist, Tan Kote, Leather Sheen, and Saddle Lac from Fiebing’s are some of our most popular options. Bee Natural Leathercare RTC Sheridan Resist and Finish is another customer favorite. Whether you prefer a satin finish or a high shine finish, Weaver Leather Supply has a leather top coat perfect for your leathercrafting projects.
How to clean and condition leather
Leather care essentials like leather conditioner and leather cleaner are perfect additions to your workshop. Favorites like Bick 1 Leather Cleaner, Bick 4 Leather Conditioner, Oakwood Leather Conditioner, Smith's Leather Balm, Fiebing’s Leather Balm with Atom Wax are just a few of the leather care products you'll find at Weaver Leather Supply. How to antique leather
Antiquing leather is a great way to add beauty and dimension to your leather projects. Fiebing’s Antique Finish highlights hand tooling, carving, stamping and embossing with a gorgeous two-tone finish. You wipe the antique finish in a circular motion on your leather project, removing excess immediately. You’ll clear the raised areas and leave the paste in the recessed areas. Allow to dry and buff. If you love projects with leather tooling and leather stamping accents, a leather antique is great for making your design pop.
How to finish leather edges
Elevate your leatherworking projects by adding a finished edge. Finishing your leather edges imparts a clean, professional end result you’ll love. Products like Edge Kote and Edge Dye Finish & Applicator from Fiebing’s, Tokonole Burnishing Gum, and Yankee Wax are just a few great choices. Leather paint pens or an edge dye roller pen help you dye your leather edges with ease and precision.
